Cook's Teacher

School Visits

How did children learn to read two centuries ago?

How did the teacher make ink?

Why is Captain Cook still so famous today?

Questions like these - and many others - can be answered by a trip to the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum.

To help teachers organize school visits to the museum we have produced a 38-page loose-leaf Education Pack.

The Pack is mainly aimed at Key Stages I & II, but could be useful for children of any age.

It focuses on how poorer children were educated in the 18th century, as well as on the career and achievements of Captain Cook, and there is also material for an exploration of the centre of Great Ayton, so that school parties could be divided into two - half to visit the museum, and half to tour the village (we suggest that not more than about 14 children visit the museum at any one time).

For a school to register for the 2011 season (April to October) costs just £20.

This entitles you to a copy of the Education Pack and to as many school visits as you want.
